Rules & Regulations

These regulations have been established and approved by the PERFECT Malaysia Operations Headquarters, under the authority of Phoenixdarts Malaysia (Phoenixdarts Sports Malaysia Sdn. Bhd.) and the resolution of its Board of Directors.

I. Tournament Participation Regulations

1Eligibility & Competition Format

Players eligible to participate in PERFECT Malaysia tournaments are:

  • Professional players approved by PERFECT Malaysia (Phoenixdarts Sports Malaysia Sdn. Bhd.) who have passed the required player qualification test.
  • Players who meet all participation conditions stated in the official PERFECT Malaysia Tournament Regulations.

PERFECT Malaysia tournaments are conducted as follows:

Preliminary RoundRound Robin
Final TournamentSingle Elimination

Round Robin group assignments are determined by draw no later than the day before the tournament. The group draw may be conducted either online or offline.

2Tournament Participation Conditions

All participating players must comply with the official PERFECT Malaysia Tournament Rules & Regulations. Players may participate after completing the required registration and paying the applicable participation fee.

A player who pays the applicable PERFECT Pro Annual Fee and enters a tournament is deemed to have agreed to comply with these regulations.

3Registration & Match Call

All participating players must complete tournament registration within the designated registration period. If more than one third of participating players fail to register on time for any reason, the Tournament Operations Headquarters may suspend or postpone the tournament.

Player late arrival — if a player is not present when their match is scheduled to begin

  1. After 5 minutes the referee must report the player's absence to the Operations Headquarters.
  2. The Operations Headquarters will call the player by arena announcement and issue a warning of possible disqualification.
  3. If the player does not appear within 10 minutes of the announcement, they are disqualified.

Referee late arrival — if an assigned referee is not present when a match is scheduled to begin

  1. Wait 5 minutes.
  2. The player must report the referee's absence to the Operations Headquarters.
  3. The Operations Headquarters will call the referee by arena announcement.
  4. If the referee does not appear within 10 minutes, another referee will be appointed.

If the absent referee was assigned during the Preliminary Round, the player assigned as referee is disqualified. If the absence occurs during the Final Tournament, the assigned referee receives a warning.

Players must remain available until they have completed any referee duty assigned for the following match. Leaving without permission, or failing to perform assigned referee duties, may result in a warning.

4Match Progression

Once a match begins, only the competing players and the referee may enter the playing area — the space between the table and the darts machine. An exception may be made where authorised personnel are required to resolve a machine issue.

Players must remain sufficiently behind the player who is throwing and must not interfere with or distract them.

Incorrect throwing order — if players mistakenly begin a leg using the incorrect first/second order

  1. Once a dart has been thrown, the leg is considered valid.
  2. Subsequent legs must return to the correct original order under the referee's supervision.

However, if the opponent raises the issue with the referee before throwing their first dart, the incorrect leg will be void and must be replayed.

Machine & throw-line adjustment

  • During a match, adjustments to the machine and throw-line installation may only be carried out by the referee or tournament staff.
  • Before a match begins, players may adjust the installed mat or throw line themselves.
  • If a player adjusts the mat or throw line after the match has started — 1st offence: caution. Two cautions: one warning.
  • Any warning issued must be recorded by the referee on the Round Robin table and Match Card.

5Pre-Match Practice

Before each match, both players are permitted, on the assigned tournament machine:

Practice allowance6 darts · 2 throws

If the referee determines that the match has been clearly interrupted, both players may be allowed an additional six darts of practice.

Practice throws are allowed when

  • The match machine is changed due to machine trouble or a similar issue.
  • The referee goes to the Operations Headquarters for an official reason, including activation of the 40-Second Rule.

Practice throws are not allowed for

  • Correcting an Out-Board reaction.
  • Correcting a mis-score.
  • Machine operation resulting from an incorrect first/second throwing order.
  • Similar administrative machine procedures.

6Score Recording

The referee is responsible for recording

  • Scores
  • Statistics
  • Awards
  • Win / loss results

Machine mis-scoring may be corrected after confirmation by both players and the referee.

Machine reaction takes priority. Scores are determined based on the machine's registered reaction.

The following situations are recognised as valid scores:

  1. A thrown dart hits another dart already in the board and the machine registers a score.
  2. A thrown dart does not remain stuck in the board, but the machine registers a score.
  3. Only the soft tip remains stuck in the board while the barrel falls off.

7Preliminary Round

Players must play according to the official Round Robin table prepared from the group draw.

  • Confirm that your name appears on the Round Robin table.
  • Mark or check your own name.
  • Proceed with matches according to the order shown on the table.
Group size4–6 players per group

Absent players

  • 6-player group with 1 player absent — the absent player is removed and the group proceeds as a 5-player Round Robin, with the table amended accordingly.
  • 5-player group with 1 player absent — the absent player is considered to have forfeited, and the player receiving the walkover is awarded 1–0.
  • 6-player group with 2 players absent — the same procedures apply.

If a player is disqualified or withdraws while matches remain, all matches played by that player are void and group standings are recalculated using only the results of the remaining players.

Players must check all results entered on the Round Robin table. Once the table has been submitted to the Operations Headquarters, errors cannot be corrected even if discovered later.

8Round Robin Table

The referee assigned to each Preliminary Round match must record the match result on the Round Robin table. If a match result is omitted during an ongoing Round Robin, both the player and the referee may be disqualified.

After each match

  • The player must check the result recorded by the referee.
  • The player must sign the results sheet.

If a result is submitted without the player's signature, the submitted result is still treated as official, even if it contains an error.

9Final Tournament

The Operations Headquarters will publish

  • The Final Tournament bracket
  • The list of qualifying players

Players are responsible for checking their qualification status and the published bracket.

Qualification priority — advancement is determined in this order

  1. Win / loss record
  2. Leg difference
  3. Average PPD (points per dart)

The PPD from the final leg is not included when calculating Average PPD.

If an error in the bracket is discovered after the Final Tournament has started, the Operations Headquarters may decide not to correct it where correction is no longer reasonably possible due to elapsed time.

10Match Card

Match Cards are prepared by the Operations Headquarters for use during the Final Tournament.

When called

  • Both players and the referee must immediately proceed to the designated machine.
  • Players must obtain the Match Card before the match.
  • The referee must verify both players' identities.
  • Players complete their permitted practice throws.
  • The match begins upon the referee's instruction.

After the match

  • Both players must check the result.
  • Both players must sign the Match Card.
  • Any error may be reported before submission.
  • The referee submits the completed Match Card to the Operations Headquarters.

If an error is discovered later and correction is no longer possible because of elapsed time, the tournament may continue using the submitted result. If a player submits an incorrectly completed record without checking it, the submitted result stands — though if both players agree, it may be corrected to the original result.

11Sponsor Advertising

PERFECT Malaysia manages sponsor advertising used during its tournaments. Players may not wear uniforms displaying advertisements for products, companies or brands that have not received prior approval from PERFECT Malaysia.

Approval must be requested according to the official PERFECT Malaysia Uniform Regulations published on the official website.

  • Final Tournament — priority to the player whose name appears on the left side of the Match Card.

15Diddle

Each player throws one dart toward the centre of the board. The player whose dart is closest to the centre of the bull wins the diddle and receives the applicable right to choose first throw, second throw, or game selection. The throwing order for the diddle is determined by coin toss.

The first player's dart remains in the board. However, if the first dart lands in the centre hole, the second player may ask the referee to remove it before throwing. Players continue throwing until a dart remains stuck in the board.

If the second player's dart knocks the first player's dart out

  • The throw is repeated.
  • The throwing order is reversed.

If both darts are exactly the same distance from the bull centre

  • The diddle is repeated.
  • The throwing order is reversed.

16Referee's Role

Referees for the Preliminary Round are assigned according to the order shown on the Round Robin table. For the Final Tournament, the loser of the previous match acts as referee for the following match.
